New fountains added, site updated
Tuesday, May 19, 2009
Here is an update of changes to the website.
1. I've updated the front page of the site so it now has one photo for each fountain so visitors can get have some idea of what the fountain looks like before clicking through to each fountain's page.
2. VancouverFountains.com has some new fountains. I have added the following photos:
- Canadian Tire Water Fountain - Broadway House Fountain - Stone Bridge Pond - Vancouver Museum Pool - Vanier Point - Veterinarian Water Bowl
3. Some existing fountains have some new photos added:
- Kryptonite Hot Tub (great new photos with the fountain's lights turned on!) - Planetarium (lots of new photos of the majestic steel crab and pool)
Btw, last week, while listening to CBC Radio 2 in the afternoon, I called into an interview about public art in Vancouver to remind them not to forget fountains!
Thanks for visiting. Enjoy the fountains.

Another Vancouver fountain photographer!
Friday, July 20, 2007
I got an email from another Vancouver fountain aficionado recently with links to his Flickr account which contains photos of about 80 fountains and other water art in Vancouver.
dmckil (his Flickr account nickname) is a great technical photographer, creating very clear, vivid images. He also takes his photos from interesting and creative distance and angles, which capture the best features of the fountains. Most, if not all, of his photos are taken in the daytime as he takes his photos at lunch time.
Great photos dmckil!!
His photos can be seen at:

My updated favourite fountain list
Thursday, October 26, 2006
With all the new fountains up on the site, I have to redo my favourite fountain list.
New Favourites:
1 harbourfront place - I like the colour of this at night, it has that mysterious green colour which contrasts with the jet black stone 2 kryptonite hot tub - the glowing kryptonite rocks are really cool and the roiling hot tub water is so unusual... I really have to get photos of the rocks lit up! 3 carina salmon stream - as a former salmon habitat biologist, I have a soft spot for salmon creeks and streams 4 bentall bistro falls - at night this has a haunting luminescent aquamarine blue colour 5 thunder chasm - I like the variety of this but the thundering waterfalls, and the large granite stones under the pools surface really make this a favourite.
Glad to hear about your favourites too!

Finally, another post!
Wednesday, October 11, 2006
Ok, summer has come and gone. So the fountain blog is not regular. At least there is a fountain blog, right! There are thrree new fountains added, but as you can see on the About page, there are a whole bunch more fountains on my list. Which reminds me, are there any eagar fountain photo takers out there? Give me a nice set and I will put em up with your name on the page. New fountains added today: I've also added more photos to the vancouver art gallery centennial fountain. I have been noticing new and previously unseen fountains and water art every week. It is really amazing how many there are in Vancouver! Stay tuned!

Vancouver's fountains are dry (just in the winter though)
Wednesday, March 01, 2006
Even though Vancouver's winters are exceptionally mild (by Canadian standards anyways) it seems that many of Vancouver's fountain managers have drained their aqueous ornaments and turned off their lights but don't worry, it appears to be a seasonal thing. I understand the reason for this if there were significant danger of freezing. For example, no fountain in Winnipeg, Manitoba would remain unfrozen in the winter and expanding ice might damage the water art. But it doesn't seem to be too big of a concern here in Vancouver because many other fountains which remain operational appear to be no worse for wear. None have frozen up that I have seen although there may have been some ice on splashed surfaces during our few brief couple of day cold snaps. Which fountains are currently shut down: So the question is put to Vancouver fountain managers: why do some of you shut down your fountains during winter?

Welcome to VancouverFountains.com
Sunday, February 12, 2006
This is the first post on the FountainBlog, the VancouverFountains.com blog. Don't expect a lot. How much can one man, even the FountainMan, write about fountains, pools and the like? Hmm? On the other hand, it is a blog, so I will have to write something.
So, to start this off, in no particular order, I am listing my top 5 favourite fountains:
1 athenian delight 2 magic flower pool 3 bentall bistro falls 4 coal harbour waterwalk (this is much more extensive than pictures shown - I need to get more photos up to do this work of art justice. In the meantime, check out these two videos of the coal harbour waterwalk video 1 video 2) 5 carina salmon stream
Which are your favourites?
